Elle and Topgear

Emma Watson is featured on the front cover of Elle, she is looking directly at the audience and the audience is drawn in because she is the only image and is in the centre of the magazine. The Connotations of Emma Watson are a successful, young woman. She could be seen as aspirational to the target audience because of the things she have achieved in her life and this could help to promote the magazine and her. The bold typography next to the image anchors the picture to the text. She may have been airbrushed to make her look perfect. 'FREE!'  a puff is used to entice the audience to buy the magazine because she will get something extra from it.The masthead stands out against the white background because it is bright red because the name of the magazine is so well known it does not matter that Emma's head is covering some of the masthead because readers of the magazine will still recognise it.   There are two main colours used (red and black) this helps the bold typography to stand out against the white background. The Target audience for this magazine is women aged from 16 to 25 who are interested in Fashion and celebrities, we know this because Emma Watson is a famous actress from Harry Potter and she is also wearing clothes from channel. They may also read Cosmopolitan and watch sex in the city or they could be a fan of Harry potter and Emma Watson.

Topgear
The main image used is two new cars , they could be seen as aspirational images because the audience reading the magazine may want to be able to buy these cars. The main image also has two of the presenters from the TV show Topgear which could persuade fans of the TV show to buy this magazine. The target audience of the magazine is men aged 17- 50 who are middle class. They may be interested in the magazine because of their interest in cars, for example a 17 year old boy who is buying their first car may look in this  magazine to see cars that he would like to own and a 50 year old may be able to buy a car like this. The target audience may also watch Life on mars and be a fan of Jeremy Clarkson. The masthead is bright yellow which stands out against the dark background. A skyline is used to show that this is a special edition of the magazine and there are other covers that are on this edition of the magazine which would interest fans or collectors.
